The Drug Free Communities of Dallas County Hope Dealers made its annual donation to the Dallas County Sheriff Office.
DFC Executive Director Jerria Martin presented a $1,000 check, Alcohol sensors and face masks to Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum on Thursday at the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office.
Granthum said the alcohol sensors will be used on site when the DCSO pull drivers over for drinking before they’re taken to the County Jail.
“People tend to forget that alcohol is a drug,” Granthum said. “When people think about drugs, they always think about marijuana and meth.”
Martin said its always important to remind Dallas County residents the dangers of drunk driving.
“Every day in America, 27 people die from alcohol related accidents,” Martin said. “People need to know that it’s dangerous.”
Granthum said he appreciates the DFC and Martin always assisting the DCSO.
“Jerria Martin does an excellent job with the DFC,” Granthum said. “It means a lot for her and the DFC to step up. The DFC has assisted us with roadblocks and help with overtime for the deputies.
