Art is for all ages.
Friday night at the Selma Arts Guild a showcase of more than 40 artists by high school and middle school children from Morgan Academy and Dallas County High School will be on display.
“The Youth Art Show is for children in middle school and high school,” said Sally Jordan of the Selma Arts Guild. “We sent out invitations to everybody in the county here.”
Out of all of the invitations sent out, two schools answered the call sending pieces in 5 different categories.
“We are quite tickled in having those two groups in here,” said Jordan.
Students brought water paintings, mixed media, 3-D art, photography, sketches, and oil and acrylic paintings to be judged by a panel and Friday at 6 pm will go back to the Arts Guild to find out the winners of each category.
The Youth Art show will be a participant in the Selma Art Walk along with the Frame Shoppe, Gordon’s Antiques, the Dallas County Arts Celebration, and the Selma Children’s Hands on Museum Elementary Art Show.
Students weren’t limited on the number of entries they could make.
The Art Walk will be from 5 pm to 8 pm and the entry for all of the events will be free.
Jordan hopes that this year’s art show will encourage more schools to participate next year.
“We hope that this year’s show will get more kids to participate next year,” said Jordan.
