Three boys and one girl from Dallas County area schools have been named to play in the AHSAA North-South All-Star Sports Week basketball game in Montgomery July 11-15.
Selma High School’s girls forward Jasmine Peeples, Selma boy’s forward Kerry Mitchell, Dallas County guard Aimal Hayes and Southside guard Mario Oliver were all chosen to participate in the games which feature top rising seniors from across the state.
The players will participate for the South in the 15th annual tournament that has games of baseball, football, soccer, volleyball, softball and football.
Coaches for the game will be announced at a later day according to the AHSAA.
It’s a chance that Selma High girl’s head coach Anthony Harris says is a special one.
“To begin with you are playing with the best there is to offer in the state,” said Harris. “That kind of competition is great for anyone. Not only that though, but the chance to get to know those great players.”
The chance also gives players the chance to showcase their skills, which is key to a sport that has an early signing period.
“These great players are going to get to know each other and showcase their skills to college scouts,” said Harris. “These are the same players they will play with or against in the future. It’s really a great opportunity for them all.”
