Valley Grande City Council looks into replacing benches at City Park

The Valley Grande City Council approved a resolution and an Ordinance at its Council meeting on Monday.
The entire Council was present: Mayor Wayne Labbe and council members Kay Davidson, Sara Day, Bruce Hughes, Jane Harris and Robbie Rose, and City Clerk/Treasurer Kim Harris.
Ordinance 2021-130, Sewer Rate increase to amend Ordinance 2012-88 was approved to get put on first read. The sewer rate will increase from $25 to $35 starting July 1.
Resolution 2021-132, Lawn Care Bid Award, was approved. Chris Thompson of the Valley Grande Volunteer Fire Department won the bid.
The Council also approved donating to Alabama Teen Challenge Walk for Freedom, which will be held on Saturday at Valley Grande City Park.
Day is looking into replacing the six park benches at the walking trail. She presented the council a list of possible replacements.
“Every single bench is broken and in bad shape, they needed to be replaced yesterday,” Day said.
Labbe, Hughes and Rose recommended that plastic benches are suitable replacements and not expensive. Day will bring more options at the council meeting next month.
In other council news:
-Jane Harris and Kim Harris are both waiting to get information from Joyce Sims of ALDOT on processing a Census for Valley Grande.
-Davidson said she talked with Will Barrett of Civil Southeast about the ALDOT TAP Grant and information about the crosswalk.
-Labbe thanked the council for running a smooth meeting in his absence from the previous meeting. President Pro Tem Kay Davidson presided for Labbe, who was out with an illness.
The next Valley Grande City Council meeting will be held at 6 p.m. June 7 at Valley Grande City Hall.
