Whether you are looking to brush up on computer skills or want to learn a new hobby, the community education department of Wallace Community College has something for you.
The new program, which has a history at Wallace, is beginning to re-emerge with the community’s support and opinions.
“It was very profitable and meaningful to the community all this time,” department director Gordon Welch said. “I asked if we could change from something that sounds very academic to something that involves the community.”
The school is looking for the input of the community about what they want to learn and have a survey set up on its website www.wccs.edu.
“We wanted to find out what the community wanted us to offer,” Welch said. “All the committee members came up with ideas about what the survey should have on it. We want the community to go to and we want them to give their opinion on what personal courses they would like to see us offer.”
The selection of courses is wide open, said Welch.
Beginning acrylic painting, introduction to digital photography, ACT preparation, Smocking, Knitting are among the choices listed on a survey that will seek input from the community.
“In the fall we could offer hunter education courses or boating safety in the spring,” he said. “There are spots that people can write in suggestions and comments on the survey too.
“What we want to do is put together a list of courses based on the survey.”
Wells said he hoped to have courses online soon to allow registration for summer courses.
