Congresswoman Terri Sewell (AL-07) hosted a Thanksgiving food drive on Tuesday afternoon at Bloch Park.

A long line of vehicles fought off chilly conditions to get a box that included turkey, collard greens, milk, cereal, cheese and bread.  Over 700 people were served.

Gospel Tabernacle Church and Son Light Center hold a food drive every Tuesday at Bloch Park. Gospel Tabernacle Pastor John E. Grayson said he was glad to have Sewell hosted the food drive.

“I’m so thankful that Congresswoman Sewell provided the food, we’re so grateful,” Grayson said. “This was a joint effort with Gospel Tabernacle COGIC-Selma and Son Light Center and the Congresswoman.”

Sewell said she appreciated the hard work and determination of Grayson with the weekly food drive and she wanted to help the community during Thanksgiving.

“I’m so grateful to be back  in my hometown of Selma and help Pastor Grayson,” Sewell said.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has left many of our community’s families struggling to make ends meet. The test of a society is how we treat those with the most need. In the spirit of giving thanks for what we have, we must come together to assist those who need a helping hand this Thanksgiving.”

Turkey, collard greens, milk , cereal, cheese and bread were among the item in the boxes.

LeMarkus A. Snow of Snow Cleaning Service, Alabama Teen Challenge, Pastor Winston Williams, Selma Police Officers Ray Blanks, Walter Curtis and R.B. Hudson  Middle School Principal Cicely Curtis were among who helped with the food drive.
