Dallas County Career Technical Center had a great showing at Wallace Community College’s Academic Challenge for Excellence competition on April 1.

The center, which hosts students from every Dallas County public school, won every event they participated in during the competition that featured local trade schools from across the Black Belt area.

“I am so proud of all of our participants who competed,” DCCTC director Jerolene Williams said. “Every year they work so hard and have done well, this year we were able to continue to do that. We have some of the best students in Dallas County going to school here and this just proves that.”

ACE has 16 different competitions, seven academic and nine technical, that test students from mathematics to masonry and building trade.

Javarious Jones and Cecil Brown won first place in their respective welding competitions and earned multiple scholarships for their win.

Also, teams from DCCTC’s nursing program and auto detail also worked and won their respective categories at the trade competition that allow students to find skills to use soon after high schools.

“These students are able to go out and get jobs upon graduation,” Williams said.

“The teachers here do a great job of getting them (students) ready for careers after school. We have some of the best teachers in Alabama and that is proven when we compete in these competitions.

“They (teachers) give them a global education, not just a local one. They do a great job.”
