The Selma City Council will have a busy council meeting on Tuesday night.
The meeting will start at 6 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall.
At last Thursday’s work session, several department heads discussed items for the council to approve:
-Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford suggested two items for the Selma Police Department: purchase of new firearms and building repairs and maintenance.
Fulford said the new equipment would cost $8,000 and over $5,000 to fix the new boiler.
-Assistant Selma Fire Chief Franklin Edwards discussed repairing one of the Selma Fire Department trucks, currently at a shop in Pelham. The truck needs a motor re-haul and is currently dripping oil and would cost over $41,000.
Edwards said that the fire truck has eight years of service left because fire trucks last 20 years. A reconditioned engine has a two-year, 100,000 mile warranty.
The proposal made Thursday to the city council is one-year 50,000 mile warranty.
-Director of Planning and Development Danielle Wooten discussed via ZOOM about the council approving a Rural Business Grant at $150,000 in Federal funds. It would help fix the second and third floors of the Selma Welcome Center.
Wooten also said that the city of Selma would not have to match it. Wooten added that she reached to three different contractors in the area.
-Dr. Denisha Hendricks of Parks and Recreation requested a second vehicle to get purchased.
-IT Director John Kinnerson discussed a Network configuration project that would help stabilize the network and improve the system. Kinnerson said it would cost over $5,400.
-Improving the salaries from Crossing Guards from $7.25 an hour to $9 an hour was also discussed.
Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr. will have his Mayor’s report in addition to the Attorney Report by City Attorney Major Madison.
Four subjects are scheduled for the Citizen’s report: LeMarkus A. Snow (Weed Abatement update), Sandra Simmons (Wrecker Service Rotation), TChalla West (Ward 6 Property), Rev. Swift (Clean up of Condemned Properties).
