When it was announced that Selma City Schools Superintendent Dr. Avis Williams emerged as a finalist for the same post in Montgomery Public Schools, some members of the Queen City community expressed their disappointment.
Williams is a few months from finishing her fifth year as SCS Superintendent.
We have a good relationship with Williams, who writes a weekly column in the Selma Times-Journal. Williams is always available whenever we’re working on a story about SCS and that includes breaking news. We appreciate that.
But Williams has a right to move on as she deems fit. College football and basketball coaches don’t stay forever at one school. Nick Saban left LSU for the NFL before coming to Alabama.
If Williams is named Superintendent at MPS, we wish her success.
