Senators hope to keep momentum

Morgan Academy’s baseball team continued its winning ways Thursday with a 7-2 defeat of East Memorial Christian Academy.
Morgan has been rolling through the season, but will face its toughest game next Saturday in Tuscaloosa.
The Senators, who have finished the season undefeated in area play, will take on Tuscaloosa Academy for first place in the region.
“The difference is between hosting the playoffs the first series and for the entire playoffs,” Morgan head coach Bob Taylor said.
“If we win the game, we will be hosting for the length of the playoffs, which is big of course.”
The Senators have already defeated Tuscaloosa Academy once, 4-1 at Morgan, and will face the Knights again during a regular season match-up Monday in Tuscaloosa.
The familiarity before the crucial matchup will not give either side an advantage according to Taylor.
“It kind of works both ways,” Taylor said.
“Who knows who they will use of their pitchers, who’s to say how they will play the game (Monday). We are all on the same process.”
With just a few games left, and the state track meet in Selma next Wednesday and Thursday, Taylor was attempting to figure out plans to prepare for the key matchup.
“Obviously, you don’t want to say one game is more important than another,” Taylor said.
“They are all important, but next week is a big week.”
No matter the outcome, Morgan will start the playoffs at home in a series on April 22 and 23, but the opposing team is not yet been determined.
