City of Selma to hold 4th of July celebration starting Thursday

The City of Selma will start its annual Stars and Stripes Fourth of July Weekend Celebration on Thursday at the Historic Riverfront Park and Amphitheater.
The City of Selma worked with the Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce for the event.
“I think its great that we are able to celebrate the Fourth of July,” Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sheryl Smedley said.
City of Selma Planning and Development Director Danielle Wooten said the event is for Selma and Dallas County citizens and guests to attend and enjoy.
Selma City Council President Billy Young said he’s looking forward to the events.
“This weekend the City of Selma will celebrate freedom, democracy, and independence,’ Young said. “ We are hoping that many Selmains will take advantage of these fun and festive events. As Council President, I would like to thank all of the City employees and other individuals that worked to make this celebration possible.”
The festivities start at 5 p.m. Thursday with the opening of vendors, followed by activities.
The red, white and boom concert and karaoke explosion starts at 6 p.m, with performances by recent Morgan Academy graduates Wilks Chittom and Wade Mason, and Clinton Babers. A fireworks show will be held after 8 p.m.
On Friday, events start at 5 p.m. with Food trucks, vendors and activities. Jeremy Flyy and Flight Control will be the musical acts for the Big Boom Concert, which starts at 6 p.m.
Saturday will be the final day of the event, which starts with a Stars and Stripes Honor Parade at 11 a.m., honoring Law Enforcement and First Responders. Wooten said registration is still open for the parade.
Alabama Madd Ladd, Chuck Strong, Stephganie Pickett, Little Kim Stewart, Projeck Band and DJ Smooth will be part of the River and Blues Concert that start at noon.
Splash activities for the kids open at 2 p.m.
