Selma resident earns academic scholarship to Auburn-Montgomery

Selma resident Messia E. Ellis recently landed a scholarship to Auburn University-Montgomery.
Ellis, who earned an Associates Degree at Wallace Community College-Selma during the spring, will major in Psychology at AUM. Ellis will take online classes at AUM.
“I’m very excited and happy that I will be going to AUM,” Ellis said. “I worked hard for this. I was unsure that I wasn’t going to win, but hard work pays off. I thank God that I did win.”
Ellis graduated from Marion Academy last year and finished with a 4.0 GPA. She also won Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in Marion three times. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa.
At WCCS, Ellis finished with a 4.23 GPA. She took dual enrollment at Judson College and received scholarship offers from other universities.
Over the years, Ellis built an impressive academic portfolio that includes: member of the National Society of High School Scholars, volunteering at the Selma-Dallas County Library, clerk of the Selma Youth City Council and the Girl Scouts.
