After numerous recruiting visits to Southeastern Conference schools, Dallas County outfielder Justin Moore said in the end the University of Alabama was where he felt at home.
Moore, who was recruited by the Crimson Tide as an outfielder, said his final visit sealed the deal.
“I wasn’t sure if I would like it at first, but when I got there it felt right, like home,” he said. “It is a great school from an academic standpoint and I’m excited about working with Coach (Andy) Phillips to become a better hitter.”
Moore brings a strong work ethic and even stronger numbers to the Tide’s signing class. He is hitting .424 this season and leads the team in stolen bases and homeruns.
He is also the all-time Dallas County High School stolen base leader.
Moore will follow in the footsteps of his father, head coach Willie Moore, who also played baseball for the Crimson Tide.
Willie said he is most excited about having his son close to home where he can follow his career closely.
“It’s great that we will be able to go up and watch him,” he said. “It was always his decision. We wanted to make sure he was going to be happy, but I am glad he’ll be close enough we can watch.”
Moore, a three-sport standout for the Hornets, will be concentrating on one sport for the first time since he was 5 years old. Hornet assistant coach Bob Dolbare said he has unlimited potential.
“He is just a great athlete and there is no telling what he can do when he concentrates on just one sport,” he said. “He’s a great student with a great family. They’ve always kept him pointed in the right direction”
