A shooting early Sunday morning left one man dead and the Selma Police Department looking for answers.
According to Selma Police Chief William T. Riley officers responded to a call in the 400 block of G.W.C. Homes at 1:30 a.m.
“Upon arriving, they found the victim with a gunshot wound to the back,” he said. “The bullet had exited through his stomach.”
The victim, 21-year-old Demius K. Jackson, was transported to Vaughan Regional Medical Center where he later died from the wounds.
Unfortunately, Riley said information has been scarce.
“When we talked to some of the people there they said they heard one gunshot and when they came outside, that’s when they saw the victim,” he said. “No one was able to give a description.”
The make and caliber of the weapon is also still under investigation, Riley said.
Following an autopsy, he said the department will have more information concerning the weapon used, which will help in the investigation.
For now, Riley said the department is leaning on the public for any information people can provide.
“We are asking anyone with any information to come forward,” he said. “We’re still talking to people and trying to run down any leads. We encourage anyone with information to come forward.”
Riley said anyone with information connected to the shooting can call the department’s Crime Stoppers line at 1-800-442-7463.
