The latest edition of the football rivalry between Selma and Southside wasn’t a classic, but the battle received high marks in other areas.

We all know the Saints prevailed 36-8 at Panther Stadium, but the game getting played was more impressive.

The Queen City was swamped with a deluge of rain all week long and a brief rainstorm hit the area a few hours before kickoff. 

Southside officials worked tirelessly to get the field ready for kickoff, but Friday’s rainstorm delayed things. The game kickoff went from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

Most schools would’ve postponed the contest to another date, but the Panthers and Saints were determined to play Friday night. The fans waited patiently and so did the players.

We applaud Southside Principal Cedric Brown and Athletic Director/head football coach Charles Moody for their determination in fixing the field and getting the game in.

Southside may have lost the game, but the Panthers’ Administration are winners where it truly counts.
