The Alabama River Chili Cook-off will be held next Thursday in downtown Selma to help raise funds for Cahaba Mental Health.
The Black Belt Community Foundation will host the event to bring the community together and raise funds for a good cause. The event starts at 5 p.m.
On Thursday, reliable Chevrolet presented the group with a check to help sponsor the chili Cook-off coming up.
“The funds will help with the overarching cost of putting on the event,” BBCF president Josh Wilkerson said. “In the past, this has been a huge community-involved event. Everyone looks forward to this event every year.”
Over 20 groups have signed up for the cook-off this year whether to sponsor or compete in the cook-off. This is one of the bigger donations that the black belt foundation has received so far and according to Wilkerson it’s a big help.
“Reliable is kind of a cornerstone for the city in support of groups like this,” Wilkerson said. “Support like this makes it possible to do what we do. We are a complete volunteer board so funding like this gives us the ability to promote and put on fun events but also acknowledge local non-profit organizations that are doing the work.”
