The Valley Grande City Council meeting was filled with several subjects.

The entire council was present: Mayor Wayne Labbe, council members Kay Davidson, Sara Day, Bruce Hughes, Jane Harris, Robby Rose, and clerk/treasurer Kim Harris.

The council heard a request from Brian Williamson to subdivide land along Highway 22 near Dogwood Lane and a piece of land on County Road 240.

The properties meet Valley Grande city requirements, which Johnson told the council the remaining piece would do so.

Letters will be sent out to the property owners this week. A public hearing with the subdivision property owners will be held on December 19 at 7 p.m.

The other big news was Kim Harris receiving a Master for Municipal Clerk plaque from the University of Alabama.

Kim Harris said she was blessed and honored to receive the award. She was attending clerk school.

“We’re so proud of Kim, she does a great job for us,” Labbe said.

In other council news:

-The council approved Dave’s Market owner David Oliver getting his 3 percent Sales Tax Reimbursement. Oliver, who was not at the meeting, provided the council with proof of payment for concrete and building materials. The amount was over $1,000.

-The office of Jackson Thornton has already started the yearly audit of the city and could provide a rough draft at the next council meeting on November 21.

-Jane Harris and Hughes continue talking to Jimmy Morrow about the gate at Valley Grande Park. Jane Harris said that Morrow was scheduled to attend the council meeting, but he may attend the next meeting.

Hughes said that Morrow hasn’t dug any holes to put up the fence around the gate quickly. Labbe said the city’s insurance policy will cover the gate liabilities.
