A Selma man was killed Friday night in what the Selma Police Department said it looks like an accidental shooting after an initial investigation by the SPD.

According to Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford and Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson, the incident occurred around 8 p.m. Friday night at the 1500 block of Highland Avenue. Jackson identified the victim as Marcus Cleveland, 33.

“The preliminary investigation is that it was accidental by the victim,” Fulford said.

Jackson said that the victim, “appeared to have accidentally shot himself when he was picking up a banner and the gun was in the truck.”

The incident remains under investigation by the SPD.
