Maintenance at the Valley Grande Ball Park and Security Gate highlighted Valley Grande’s City Council meeting.

The entire council was present: Mayor Wayne Labbe, council members Sara Day, Kay Davidson, Robbie Rose, Bruce Hughes, and Treasurer/Clerk Kim Harris.

The council approved Ballfield Maintenance, which will require regarding the fields and rebuilding the batter’s box. Labbe said that the kids dig the hole in the batter’s box, creating a situation at home plate. A woman tore knee ligaments earlier in the season.

Labbe said clay bricks will be installed underground to keep the kids from digging a hole.

The bid will go to Turf Planner and should cost around $25,000.

The city council also approved opening bids for fencing at the park. Labbe said that he got a call from Jimmy Morrow about when the line will be ready.

The council approved for J & S Electrical to run the line, which will cost $2,000.

The council also opted for a black chain-length fence to close the gate. Labbe said they need to find two fence people or allow Morrow and Selma Fencing to bid.

In other council news:

Day said the annual Christmas in the Park was successful despite the heavy rain on December 11 at the Walking Trail. “Despite the rain, we had a good turnout, more than I expected,” Day said.

The next Valley Grande City Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 3 at 6 p.m. at Valley Grande City Hall.
