The City of Selma Public Works Director said Sunday that debris from the tornado will be picked up this week.
Selma Public Works Director Henry Hicks said that plans are being made for pick-up, which will start in the upcoming days.
“The debris pickup will be an ongoing situation and done every day,” Hicks said. “We will continue to do so until all of the debris is picked up.”
Hicks said the schedule hasn’t been set nor which neighborhoods the city will put first in line. He urged people to put their debris at the end of their streets for pickup.
“I can’t give an accurate time when the pickup will actually start or what areas we’ll go to first,” Hicks said.
Hicks said that the city will have help getting debris off the streets from organizations in Uniontown, Birmingham, Hoover and Greenville.
“At this point, we’ve got so many people helping us pick up the debris,” Hicks said. “We’re getting help from people within a 100-mile radius in Selma.”
Hicks said the work is being paid for by volunteers.
