Edgewood Elementary School Principal Dr. Margaret Jones was recently selected as one of three finalists for Alabama’s National Distinguished Principal award.

Jones has been at Edgewood for five years. Selma City Schools Superintendent Zickeyous Byrd showed his support for Jones after she was named a finalist for this prestigious award. “We are extremely proud of Dr. Jones and the accomplishments she has made that has led to her being a finalist for the Alabama Distinguished Principal Award,” Byrd said. “This is a tremendous and prestigious honor. We are wishing her the best of luck as we are all cheering her on.”

The other finalists are Karissa Lang of Crestline Elementary School at Hartselle City Schools, and Dr. Alice Turney of Riverchase Elementary School at Hoover City Schools.

A panel of judges met with Jones on February 7. After the judges meet with all the finalists, they will meet to select a winner to get announced in early spring.

Dr. Vic Wilson Executive Director of the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS) and AAESA told clasleaders.org that the three finalists are the best that Alabama has to offer.  “These three outstanding principals embody the best of what education has to offer,” Wilson said. “Their dedication to their students and commitment to excellence is a shining example for all of us. We are proud to have them represent Alabama in this prestigious recognition program.”
