Dallas County District Court Judge spoke at Foot Soldiers Breakfast

Dallas County District Court Judge Vernetta Perkins was the guest speaker at the Foot Soldiers Breakfast on Saturday at Selma High School.
Perkins told the audience being part of Selma City Schools growing up and graduated from Selma High School in 1993.
“I’m a product of Selma and the Foot Soldiers,” Perkins said. “I’m a 21st Century leader.”
The speech delivered by Perkins revolved around leadership. Perkins said the late F.D. Reese, a member of the Courageous Eight, was a great leader as Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church Pastor.
“It’s time to reimagine justice and leaders,” Perkins said. “We have to come together and reimagine what justice looks like. Now is the time to come together.”
After the event, breakfast was served in the Selma High cafeteria.
The theme of the event was: “Go back to the past and bring forward that which is useful.’
Safe Haven Pastor Michael Bowen and Civil Rights Historian Louretta Wimberly were the high-profile guests who attended the event.
