Teams lined up to turn in their donations and get their T-shirts at Regions Bank Thursday in preparation for Friday’s Dallas County Relay for Life walk at Memorial Stadium set to begin at 6 p.m.

Regions Bank representatives, were all smiles as the donations poured in.

“The money is for a good cause,” said Regions representative, Charie Hamilton. “Anytime you can have someone donate to a worthy cause is a great thing. It makes you feel good.”

Adrian Moppins, Wal-Mart associate who raised nearly $2,000 on food sales for her team, believes by the event’s end, her goal of $7,000 will be met.

“I feel pretty good about it,” Moppins said.

Michelle Meeks, Martin Middle School teacher, feels deeply about cancer. Her team raised $1,400 toward the cause.

“Cancer has touched so many of our faculty and students’ lives,” Meeks said. “We hope everyone can just get involved with the Relay for Life. We also hope to raise even more money next year for our team.”

Laura Bennett, Selma Middle CHAT Academy, raised more than $800. Many of her students also said they were affected by the disease in some way.

“Something like this (the relay) is a great way for everyone to get involved and get the word out about cancer,” Bennett said.

“It’s also a great way to get involved in the community.”

The Dallas County Relay for Life Bank Night continued until 8 p.m. Organizers will announce the total amount of money raised after the relay.
