The Selma Chapter of the Links, Inc. and Rural Health Medical Program, Inc. co-hosted a Wellness Health Fair last weekend at the Selma YMCA.
Rural Health provided health screenings for hypertension, diabetes and kidney disease with glucose and blood pressure assessment at the health fair.
The health fair was a homecoming for Herban Soul Cafe owner Alexis Kimbrough, a Selma native. Kimbrough has worked in the customer service, mental health, and food service business for over 10 years
A 2012 graduate of Selma High School, Kimbrough now lives in Birmingham. Her company is based online.
“I got to come back home and had a chance to promote healthy living,” Kimbrough said.
Jillian Malone and Legacy of Hope, who’s based on the UAB campus, said they were grateful to participate in the health fair.
“We were glad to get an invitation,” Malone said. “It’s real important to concentrate on having a healthy lifestyle.”
The health fair had countless companies that sponsored the event: Pain Center at Vaughan Regional Hospital, Selma AIR Pediatric Adolescent Medicine, Inc., BlackBelt Wellness, Legacy of Hope, Something Better Lifestyle Improvement Project, Alabama Partnership for Children, Alabama Department of Public Health, Tanesha Purifoy, Attorney Malika Fortier, Cindy Duck, Alabama Cooperative Extension Agency, Black K.A.R.E (Kidney Awareness Resources and Education), Herban Soul Café , Wealth Build Dreams, Dr. Rosalyn Bassett and Michael D. We are appreciative of each participant, presenter and vendor that made this collaboration a success.”
