One of the surviving Foot Soldiers was recently honored by the Dallas County Commission.
George Sallie, 94, who participated in the Bloody Sunday event on March 7, 1965, received a plaque from the Dallas County Commission for his bravery and courage during the Civil Rights movement during the 1950’s and 1960’s.
Dallas County Commissioner Connell Towns called Sallie a major reason he got into politics.
“I met George Sallie when I moved to Selmont,” Town said. “He’s one of the men that paved the way for me to become a Dallas County Commissioner.”
Dallas County Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn said Sallie should always be honored for sacrificing his life during racial injustice.
