A lifelong dream for Dallas County Hornet J’Michael Goings came true on Friday when he committed to play Baseball at Bishop State Community College.
Surrounded by family, friends, coaches, and his pastor, Goings dawned the colors of the Wildcats to play as a utility player next season.
“I didn’t think that this day would ever come,” Goings said. “With all the struggles I have had on the field and off the field and the mental struggles it is just about pushing myself and being glad that I got to this point. I know this is not the end. I have to be a lion, not an alligator. When an alligator eats it rests. It’s fine. When a lion eats it continues to eat and continues to eat. It pushes itself because it knows it has to eat again.”
Goings played for two years under Head Coach Andrew Harrison at Dallas County. Harrison says Goings deserves the opportunity to play at the next level. “I am very proud of J’Michael,” Harrison said. “Anytime you get to further your career at any college is a huge accomplishment. Much less go to a school that is a contender in their division like Bishop is. He deserves it.”
During the commitment, Goings’s mother Ghytana spoke about how proud she was of her son. She said while he is at Bishop he should hold God close and continue to work hard. “It’s been a blessing for him to keep his faith and not be ashamed of his faith and acknowledge God,” she said. “Because we do give God all the glory, honor, and praise for this opportunity that has been afforded to him.”
She said she was just proud to be able to be on the journey that started at a young age with her son. “I’m grateful. I’m blessed to be a part of the journey,” she said.
Goings said that while he is happy to be going to Bishop he doesn’t know God’s plan and when his journey will end but he will enjoy the journey while he is on it every day.
“This is just another chapter in my life and another stepping stone,” Goings said. “Like I have said before I am writing a song and I am trying to make sure that this is the best song when it ends and I am finished with it.”
