Alabama Association of Resource Conservation and Development Councils made a big impact early on Saturday morning during the Blackbelt Benefit Groups Rockin’ Rib-off by donating a $5,000 check to the group in support of the Tornado Benefit Concert and Rockin’ Rib-off fundraiser.

The fundraiser on Saturday, hosted by the BBG, was to raise money for the continued recovery of Selma after the January 12 tornado. BBG President Josh Wilkerson said that the donation is going to be a big help in the overall goal in rebuilding Selma.

“We are overwhelmed by the tremendous support and unity displayed at the Tornado Benefit Concert and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Alabama Association of RC&D Councils for their very generous donation of $5k in support of Tornado Recovery efforts,” Wilkerson said. “This contribution will bolster the ongoing efforts to support tornado recovery and long-term rebuilding initiatives.”

BBG member Carl Bowline echoed the comments of Wilkerson and said that the donation shows that the BBG is doing things that matter in Selma.

“The generous donations from the Alabama Association of RC&D Councils shows we are creating the type of events that bring people to Selma,” Bowline said. “We are honored that they would consider BBG for their donation.”

RC&D Executive Director Katie Conner said that they are honored to be a part of something that supports the recovery of Selma and brings Selma together as a community.

“Alabama RC&D is thankful for groups like Blackbelt Benefit for putting these events on the ground,” Conner said. “After a devastating tornado, it’s important for a community and its citizens to come together to lift community spirits and help those in need. An effort like this captures the spirit of RC&D and we are grateful to play a part.”
