One of Selma’s most active businesses when it comes to education was recognized in a recent edition of The Petroleum & Convenience Marketers of Alabama (P&CMA) magazine.

Rex Jones is the General Manager of Cougar Oil on the corner of Broad St. and Highland Ave. in Selma. With his role he has given back in many different ways in the city. He is always giving out scholarships, he has donated towards helping others and is constantly thinking about the betterment of the city more than himself. The story in the magazine from P&CMA tells the story of how Jones grew up in Selma. He went to school to Morgan Academy and now as an adult looks to give back to the city that gave so much to him. Jones has played a major part in the lives of young people in Selma City Schools not only with scholarships but with opportunities. Jones and Wallace Community College-Selma have a partnership that provides 10 full scholarships to  students who want to work on getting their CDL’s. The connection between Jones and Selma has been helpful, according to him, because it allows Jones to go to places like Selma High School and recruit students so they can receive one of these scholarships.

“The only thing I would add is how valuable the Selma High connection is as well,” Jones said.  “I have enjoyed recruiting their students to the CDL program.”

According to the story Jones is the Vice Chairman of the P&CMA and in 2024 will become the Chairman. After this article he said in a Facebook post that he has new motivation and drive to keep doing what he does.

“I appreciate Bart Fletcher and P&CMA for not only telling this story but helping me make it possible,” Jones said. “ I have been extremely excited and energized with the possibilities we have as an organization. It has also been awesome getting to work this year with Brian Young from Young Oil who is serving as Chairman. I have nothing but respect for Brian and all he does. We have big plans for our group though and this is just the beginning.”

Jones also said that he was honored that the story turned out the way it did and that it highlighted the work going on in Selma.

“I appreciated P&CMA highlighting the work we have done in Selma,” Jones said. “I am also thankful they partnered with me on the scholarships.”
