The East Selma Fishing Pond opened its doors for the first time this summer last Saturday and multiple Dallas County residents came out to enjoy some fishing and some sun. The pond will be open throughout the summer thanks to the Selma City Parks and Recreation Department as well as the Selma Public Works Department. Selma City Councilman Michael Johnson was in attendance for opening day as well as other members of Selma who had a good time catching tons of fish. Parks and Rec Director Dr. Denisha Hendricks said that it was great having so many people out last weekend to get things started for the summer.

“We are truly excited to have had our East Selma Fishing Pond open over the weekend in celebration of National Fishing and Boating Week. The attendance was outstanding and so much so that we will have regular hours throughout the summer,” Hendricks said. “Special thanks to Councilman Michael Johnson and ALL citizens that showed up, had fun, and even helped us keep the families clean.  We will open again Wednesday – Friday from 7 am – 6 pm. Thanks to our Parks and Recreation and Public Works staff for making this possible.”

For those who come to the pond there are a few rules that have been put in place First, Enter and Fish at your own risk. Second, No Children under the age of 18 without an adult. Three, absolutely no swimming.
