The Children’s Dentistry of Central Alabama Biscuits made the city of Selma extremely proud by winning their regular season undefeated. Not only did they take the regular season by storm they also took the playoffs by storm by winning the playoffs to have an undefeated season.

In a Facebook post by Marketing & Patient Relations Director for Children’s Dentistry of Central Alabama Lauren Cummings she congratulated the Biscuits on their season.

“Congratulations to the Children’s Dentistry of Central Alabama Biscuits,” the post said. “They are regular season and playoff champions with an undefeated season. We are proud of each of them and their hard work.”

The Biscuits, named after the local minor league team the Montgomery Biscuits, played a tough schedule but head coach Brent Mims said his team showed a lot of grit through the season.

“Last year we drafted all the kids as seven-year-olds,” Mims said. “We were able to keep them for two years so we had the youngest team in the league last year. We lost a few tough games last year but this year they just had a lot more confidence. They looked at every practice as a competition with each other. They were super competitive. They were just trying to beat everybody as they could honestly, that was their goal. Their goal was to score over 20 runs every game.” 

Mims’ team is made up of eight-year-old boys and of a roster of 12 the Biscuits will have seven young men represent them in the All-Stars game.

“They were the ones that took control,” Mims said. “They have good team chemistry. They get along with each other and they have learned how to play as a team. They know where everybody is supposed to be and when they are supposed to be there.”

Seeing the excitement on the player’s faces and seeing them progress and get better throughout the summer is one of the main reasons that Mims coaches every summer.

“You learn a lot playing team sports,” Mims said. “All of my coaches that I played for had a lot of influence over me and they still do. I wanted to teach them how to play the game of baseball but also you have a lot of influence over young men as a coach it goes a little deeper than just sports.”
