Valley Grande changes city council meeting time

The Valley Grande City Council officially changed the time of its city council meeting.

The city council unanimously voted Monday to change the time  to 5 p.m. For years, the city council met at 6 p.m.

The meeting change takes effect at the next city council meeting on July 10.

Ordinance 2023-154 Final Passage, the only old business on the agenda,  was about the time change.

The entire city council was present at its meeting: Mayor Wayne Labbe, council members Sara Day, Kay Davidson, Robby Rose, Bruce Hughes and Jane Harris.

The only new business on the agenda was Resolution 2023-155 Engineering  Services CDBG, a Grant that will pave Overlook Hills.

The city council unanimously approved.

Labbe said the Grant will cover 80 percent of the cost. Labbe also said that the city may have be responsible for 10 percent if the Dallas County Commission covers the other 10 percent.

Labbe said it will cost $1 million to repair Overlook Hills. He added that the money may come out of the Rebuild Alabama  account.

In other council news:

-Labbe told the city council that William “Bill”  Bridges was hired as the new Dallas County Engineer. Labbe said he looks forward to working with Bridges.

-A Cornhole tournament will be held on July 1 at the Valley Grande Sports Complex to raise money for the Valley Grande All-Stars to travel.
