Budget negotiations between Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr. and the Selma City Council have been extended into next week.
Both sides agreed to extend the July 1 deadline until after the Fourth of July holiday at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
The entire City Council was present: President Billy Young, council members Sam Randolph, Christie Thomas, Troy Harvill, Michael Johnson, Clay Carmichael, Lesia James, Jannie Thomas and Atkin Jemison.
“It won’t happen July 3, it won’t happen July 4,” Perkins joked.
Johnson motioned and Randolph seconded. The council unanimously approved.
The city council also approved unanimously to close all city offices closed on Monday July 3, the day before Tuesday, July 4th.
