Memorial Stadium was repaired just in time for the Queen City Classic showdown between Selma and Southside on September 1.
We all know what happened, Southside prevailed 22-8 in a game that was played during heavy rain for most of the contest.
We applaud the leadership of those who got Memorial Stadium ready for the start of Labor Day weekend: Selma City Councilman Clay Carmichael, City of Selma Parks and Recreation Director Dr. Denisha Hendricks. Selma City Schools Superintendent Dr. Zickeyous Byrd, football coach Leon Day, and Athletic Director Wil Morgan all deserve pats on the back as does Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr. and Selma City Council.
We understand that several businessmen rose to the occasion, but this is about the leadership at the top. That’s where it all begins.
We always hear some residents often complain about leaders needing to deliver for citizens. Well, city officials just came through.
Good things happen when we work together.
