Selma City Schools hold month-long reading series

The Selma City Schools (SCS) Library Media Specialists have launched a month-long “Fall into a Good Book” series that began on Tuesday.

The program, which runs through September 29, is a literacy initiative for kindergarten through 12th grade students.

Here are the challenges for each grade:

  • Kindergarten through First Grade: Read 2 Myon Books, take at least one AR Tests and pass with at least 85 percent accuracy.
  • Second through Sixth Grades: Read four Myon books, take at least two AR tests and pass with least 85 percent accuracy.
  • Seventh and Eighth Grades: Read six Myon books, take at least four AR Tests and pass with 85 percent accuracy.
  • Ninth through 12th grades: Read at least eight Myon books.

Dr. Zickeyous Byrd is the SCS Superintendent and Reginald Glover is the Principal at Selma High School. Both administrators gave their blessing to the program designed to get students reading and ultimately to improve literacy among young readers.
