As a child growing up, we attended worship services at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Montgomery. When arriving at church on Sunday morning, you could hear Mrs. Naomi Byrd practicing and playing the piano. Naomi used her gift of music to help build up the kingdom.

When she would play and sing, she could charm the birds out of the trees. Naomi also suffered from arthritis in her hands, but she never complained nor let it interfere with her calling. It would have been easy for her to make excuses not to play, but because she was faithful to her call, she touched many lives.

We must remember life may not always seem fair, but instead of complaining about it, use your gifts to further the kingdom. Naomi’s dedication and unwavering faith in using her musical talents to serve the church and touch lives left a lasting impact on all who knew her. Her commitment to her calling, despite the challenges she faced with arthritis, serves as a powerful reminder to us all.

Naomi’s music had a way of transcending the walls of the church and reaching the hearts of those who heard it. People would often find comfort in her music, finding the strength to face their own challenges and hardships. Naomi’s gift became a source of inspiration and hope for many, reminding them that despite life’s unfairness, there is always a way to make a difference.

Naomi’s example teaches us that we should never let our own limitations or circumstances hold us back from using our gifts to further the kingdom. Instead of complaining about the unfairness of life, we should embrace our talents and find ways to serve others. Just as Naomi used her music to build up the kingdom, we too can use our unique gifts to make a positive impact in the world around us.

So, let us remember Naomi’s story and the lessons she taught us. Let us be faithful to our own callings, even in the face of adversity. May we always use our gifts to further the kingdom, bringing hope to those who need it most.
