Get Fit Selma holds annual Health Fest

The Get Fit Selma Health Fest had a different twist in its 10th-year event on Saturday at the McRae-Gaines Learning Center.
For the first time, the event had a Selma Street Olympics that included Boss League 3V3 and Double Dutch Aerobics.
“Our goal is to make Selma stronger,” McRae-Gaines Learning Center Director Sadie Moss said.
The event was sponsored by McRae-Gaines Learning Center and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Selma Alumnae Chapter. Nachos, ice cream were also available for people who attended.
“We’ve been doing this for the last 10 years after Dr. Bruce Taylor did it 10 years before that,” said Stephanie Hamm,Co-Chair, Get Fit Selma! “We’re focused on getting Selma healthy. It’s a way for people to get a free health scan.”
Defeat Diabetes 5K and Walk, Kidz Color Run, health screenings and health education were held by Vaughan-Regional Medical Center, Rural Health Medicine, Inc. and UAB Medicine.
The McRae-Gaines Carnival also provided games, prizes, food, Bouncy House and inflatables.
