Prep Roundup: Southside clinches playoff berth; Selma falls

Derick Smith scored five touchdowns as Southside clinched a Class 3A state playoff berth with a 56-16 over Greensboro on Friday at Panther Stadium.
The Panthers (5-2, 3-2 Region 3, Class 3A) positioned themselves to finish as third seed, but must Alabama Christian.
“It’s an accomplishment that we never want to take for granted,” Panthers coach Charles Moody said.
Jabrien Gresham and Amadrion Smith also scored for the Panthers.
Southside visits Francis Marion next Friday.
Shelby County 24, Selma 20: The Saints (1-7, 1-3) saw their playoff hopes get damaged, falling on the road. Selma hosts Jemison next Friday.
Monroe Academy 33, Morgan Academy 16: The Senators (1-7, 1-6) have lost six straight.
Caden Tellier threw a 31-yard TD to Milton and added at 1-yard TD run. He also added a two-point conversion run and hit Jack Johnson on another two-point conversion run. The Senators visit top-ranked Glenwood Academy next Friday.
Hale County 41, Dallas County 8: The Hornets (0-7, 0-5 Region 3, Class 4A) remained winless, falling in Moundville.
Edward Blevins scored the only touchdown for Dallas County. Kodell Sharp added a two-point conversion.
The Hornets visit Bibb County next Friday.
Cornerstone Christian 74, Meadowview Christian School 6: The Trojans (0-8) fell in their final road game of the season.
The Trojans close the regular against Trinity Christian next Friday.
