Selma picked the perfect time to play its best game of the year.

Running back Jason Rogers ran for 150 yards and scored two touchdowns as the Saints prevailed 42-18 on Friday night at Memorial Stadium

The Saints (2-7, 2-3 Region 3, 5A) clinched a 5A state playoff berth with the Homecoming victory.

“I’m excited and I’m happy for our kids that we made the playoffs,” Saints first-year head coach Leon Day said. “They worked hard to reach this point. They deserve it.”

Selma dominated the first half, leading 16-6 after one quarter and 28-12 at halftime.

Rogers and Omari Smith each scored touchdowns and two-point conversions in the first quarter.

Samrion Woods threw a 60 yard TD pass to Desmeon Carter, who added a 10-yard TD run in the second quarter, putting the Trojans up 28-12 at halftime.

Woods, one of 10 Selma seniors honored before the game, discussed his performance.

“It feels good to make the playoffs and win on Homecoming,” Rogers said. “I felt that I should’ve scored more touchdowns, but I’ll take it.”

Selma continued to hold the Panthers at bay in the second half with a 14-6 advantage.

Woods and Smith connected on a 24-yard TD play, followed by Rogers’ 2-point conversion run for a 36-18 lead after three quarters.

Selma closed the scoring on Rogers’ 2-yard TD run to make it 42-18.

Woods threw for 174 yards and ran for 72 more, with two touchdown passes.

The Saints played reserves in the final two minutes because the contest was already decided.

The Saints close the regular season against Charles Henderson next Friday.
