The Central Alabama Fair, hosted by the Selma Lions Club, is just around the corner. From Oct. 30-Nov. 4, fairgoers can enjoy a week of family-friendly entertainment and community involvement.

According to the fair’s official website, the fair is set to kick off on Oct. 30, with the gates opening nightly at 5:30 p.m. Admission to the fairgrounds is only $6 with an armband for unlimited fun available for $25.

Russell Haskell, the Lions Club’s Central Fair Manager, emphasized the enduring legacy of the fair.

“The Lions Club has hosted the fair for over 60 years. It’s our biggest fundraiser,” Haskell said. “It’s our chance to give back to the community. Proceeds go towards sight conservation, providing eye exams and glasses for people who wouldn’t be able to afford them otherwise.”

Visitors can explore thrilling rides, indulge in delectable fair foods, and test their skills at various games. The fair also boasts arts and crafts such as pumpkin painting, a petting zoo, and nightly exhibits such as the Dallas County Schools Art Contest, showcasing the artistic talents of local students.

On Saturday, Nov. 4, the Central Alabama Fair Pageant takes center stage. The day’s festivities begin at 1 p.m. with the “mini” pageant commencing at 1:30 p.m., followed by the ”tiny” category at 3 p.m. and the “littles” at 4:30 p.m.

To kick off the fair week, the Selma Lions Club, in collaboration with the Safe Harbor Women’s Medical Clinic, is hosting a community Safety Trunk or Treat event on Oct. 29 from 4-7 p.m. This pre-fair celebration will feature trunk-or-treat activities, games, bounce houses, and door prizes.

There’s even a prize for the best decorated trunk.  In addition to all the fun, this event puts the focus on safety. Members of the Selma Fire Department and local law enforcement will be on-site to provide safety tips and even conduct car seat safety checks.

For safety and convenience, fair organizers have implemented a clear bag policy this year. Only clear bags and small clutch purses will be allowed through the gate, ensuring a secure and enjoyable experience for all attendees.

The fair is a longstanding tradition that brings excitement to the community while also contributing to a cause.

Join the Selma community at the Lions Fair Park, located at 2401 W Dallas Avenue, to celebrate over six decades of tradition and fun.
