One of my goals was reached last week at Dallas County High School.
Before the season began, The Selma Times-Journal planned to attend a football game by all six schools: Dallas County, Keith, Meadowview Christian School, Morgan Academy, Selma and Southside.
By attending the Hornets’ homecoming contest against West Blocton in Plantersville, I successfully reached that goal.
Our coverage, which we call The Selma Times-Journal’s game of the week, depends on the magnitude of the contest played in Dallas County.
I don’t mind sharing the total games I attended at each school during the first 10 weeks of the prep season.
Southside was covered five times by The Selma Times-Journal because the Panthers are the most successful team in Dallas County, and they played in several big games that determined their playoff seeding.
The Times-Journal staffed three Keith games because the Bears were in the running for the Area 5, Class 1A championship.
Selma also was covered by The Times-Journal three times during the year. We occasionally get complaints from Selma fans over wanting more coverage, but we were there when the Saints prevailed on homecoming night.
Morgan Academy was covered twice by the Times-Journal, especially for that heartbreaking defeat on Friday when Senators’ quarterback Cadien Tellier put on a show.
We attended the Trojans’ season opener against Jacksonville Christian on Aug. 25.
By the time week 11 ends on Friday, Dallas County and Keith each can add another game staffed by The Times-Journal. When the dust settles on the football season, every school will be represented on The Times-Journal’s All-Dallas County team planned for the Christmas holidays. We’ll also send nominations for the Alabama Sportswriters Association (ASWA) all-state team that’s released before Christmas.
Until then, we’ll be getting ready for the state playoffs that start on Nov. 10.
