The Rural Health Medical Program Inc. (RHMP) has announced the latest addition to their dedicated team of healthcare professionals. Dr. Tomeko McPhillips DPM, a native of Camden is set to bring her wealth of experience and expertise to the group.

Dr. Meneka Johnson Nicholson, COO of RHMP shared her excitement with the new addition.

“Rural Health Medical Program is thrilled to announce the full-time addition of renowned podiatry specialist, Dr. Tomeko McPhillips to our team,” Nicholson said. “With Dr. McPhillips on board, we’re not just stepping up our game in foot and ankle care; we’re ensuring that our patients in Selma and surrounding Black Belt rural areas have access to the highest standard of medical treatments closer to home. This initiative underscores our dedication to addressing the unique health needs of our rural communities and reinforces our pledge to bring specialized, quality care to every patient we serve.”

McPhillips attended Wilcox Central High School before graduating from the University of Alabama, where she majored in biology with a minor in chemistry. She earned her doctorate in podiatry from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. 

With 23 years of experience in podiatry, McPhillips is a seasoned expert in her field. Alongside her husband, Dr. Glenn McPhillips, she served as co-owner of Family Foot Care for 21 years. 

McPhillips is also an active member of several medical associations such as the Alabama Podiatric Medical Association and the American Podiatric Medical Association. Her community involvement expands beyond the professional sphere as she is also a proud member of the Selma Alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. 

Keshee Dozier Smith, CEO of RHMP also shared her thoughts about McPhillips joining the team. 

“We are very pleased to have attracted such a qualified medical professional to our team.” Smith said.

At RHMP, McPhillips will offer a wide range of podiatric services including diabetic foot care, heel pain treatment, ingrown toenail management, corn and callus removal, blister and bunion care and treatment for heel spurs. 

In addition to a new podiatric specialist, the Rural Health medical team already provides an array of services including family medicine, internal medicine, women’s healthcare, men’s healthcare, child and adolescent care, dental care, behavioral and mental health care and patient assistance programs through two mobile units.
