There is a story about a family who visited the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France. As they walked around, the little boy was looking at the icons in the stained glass and asked his dad, “Who are those people in the windows?” The dad looked at him and said, “I don’t know!” 

Later that night, as they were dining, the little boy said, “Dad, I know who the people were in the windows today.” 

The dad replied, “Who?” 

“Those are the people who let the light shine in,” the boy said. 

Ordinary people let the light shine in; people like you and me.

Sunday, Nov. 5, the Christan Church will call the names of those who have entered into God’s eternal rest. All Saints is a special day in the life of the Church as we remember the people who made a difference in the lives of others and impacted the Kingdom! We remember and celebrate their mark on this world, from the ones who made sure the lights and heaters were turned on in the church to those who taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school (VBS). 

The ones who prayed for us and helped lead us to a relationship with Christ through their deeds and actions. With that said, they had their faults and troubles in this life, but the one thing that set them apart was that they lived their life for Jesus instead of themselves.

On All Saints Sunday, we will celebrate, honor, and give thanks for those who have served Christ, past and present. In remembering, we the church are truly in communion with the saints. As we celebrate those who have gone on before us, we all have the opportunity to let the light shine through us as we persist in carrying out the mission of the good news of the Gospel. If we truly want to honor the legacy of the saints and remember all their labors, let us give praise to our Lord Jesus Christ, our only Savior, by letting His light radiate in us as we make disciples with the help of the Holy Spirit in love and truth. As we truly say on All Saints Sunday, 

“Thank You, Lord, for this, your faithful Servant.”
