The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Zeta Eta Omega Chapter finished a successful fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness Month raising $4,000.

According to the American Cancer Society, after skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women.

In 2023, over 43,000 women will die of breast cancer in America, making it the second leading cause of cancer death in women after lung cancer.

The focus of the fundraiser was to provide funds for individuals and families dealing with cancer including breast cancer.

“Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority reigns supreme in its mission of ‘Service to All Mankind’. We have an ongoing history and reputation for making a global impact through local change,” said President Mia Suggs.

The chapter made the presentation for The Angel Fund to the staff of  Selma’s Alabama Cancer Care Center. The Angel Fund is a non-profit organization created to help strengthen those with the financial burdens associated with cancer, and provide hope for them and their families. Zeta Eta Omega’s Program Chair Darlene Rudolph said, “No one should be left in the dark and nobody should travel alone in the shadow of cancer. These funds will impact the lives of local cancer patients.”

Tammy Maul served as the chair of the fundraiser with committee captains Dr. Tanya Miles, Dr. Patricia Robinson and Dr. Tracey Shannon.
