A Selma resident died in a two-vehicle crash on Saturday.
According to Sgt. Jeremy Burkett of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), Roosevelt Sigler, 69, drove a 1997 Jeep Cherokee that was struck by a 2017 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Joe N. Smith III, 37, of Demopolis.
The incident took place around 6:45 p.m. on U.S. Highway 80 near the 96-mile marker, about 10 miles east of Selma.
Burkett said that Sigler was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Joe N. Smith III and Valerie Smith, 42, also of Demopolis, a passenger in the Dodge Ram, were also not using seat belts. Both were injured and transported to Vaughn Regional Medical Center (VRMC) for treatment.
Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate the accident.
