Dollar General held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new store in Plantersville earlier this month.
Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr., Valley Grande Mayor Wayne Labbe, Dallas County Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn, Rep. Prince Chestnut and Dallas County Commissioner Vivian Rogers all attended the event. Byron Evans represented Congresswoman Terri Sewell. Evans is the son of the late Selma Mayor George Evans.
“I’m thankful for everyone that came out for the groundbreaking ceremony and for the nice comments looking forward to shopping at our future dollar general,” said Barbara McGee, who organized the event.
McGee said all of the elected officials who took part in the ceremony had a common remark about supporting the new store.
“All the elected officials said they are glad about it coming and it will mean growth for Plantersville and provide jobs,’’ McGee said. “Let’s grow together Dallas County.”
McGee said the future Dollar General will be located across from Dallas County High School and is scheduled to open sometime next year.
