City of Selma declares Gunnar Henderson Day June 29

The City of Selma honored Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson for earning American League Rookie of The Year at a City Council meeting on Tuesday.
The Council announced that Gunnar Henderson Day will be June 29, which is Henderson’s birthday.
Councilman Clay Carmichael read a resolution that began with Henderson’s career at Morgan Academy and included him being named Alabama Sportswriters Association (ASWA) baseball player of the year in 2019. Carmichael continued with Henderson getting drafted in the second round of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Orioles and closed the proclamation with Henderson being named AL Rookie of the Year.
“We’re proud of Gunnar Henderson,” Carmichael said.
Henderson was presented for the proclamation. His family, parents Allen Henderson and Kerry Henderson, brothers Jackson Henderson and Cade Henderson. also attended the ceremony. They took pictures with city council members, President Billy Young, council members Clay Carmichael, Jannie Thomas, Atkin Jemison, Christie Thomas, Sam Randolph. Troy Harvill and Lesia James.
The 22-year-old Henderson thanked the City of Selma for always supporting him.
“I’m very honored and humbled to receive this,” Henderson said. “I’m glad to have my hometown, the City of Selma behind me>”
