The 100 Black Men of Selma hosted its first mentoring session of the school year at Selma High School  on Sept. 19.

Realtor and former NCAA Division I athlete, Jaquon Robinson, discussed Conflict Resolution with teenage boys at the school.

Among the 100 Men of Selma members present at the meeting were: Charles Johnson, Sr., Bishop Effell Williams, Jerome Thames, and State Senator Robert Stewart.

Selma City Council President Billy Young, a member of the 100 men of Selma, was not present at the meeting, but said the organization always tries to improve quality of life for young men.

“Mentoring serves as one of the pillars of our organization,” Young said. “I’m thankful that our local chapter continues to support our youth through mentorship. The motto of our organization is, ‘What they see is what they will be.’ “Our mentorship program reflects our motto and the Selma 100 continues to provide positive services for the young people in Selma and Dallas County.”

Mark Neely, 100 Men of Selma member and Dallas County Commissioner candidate, said the organization recognizes the growing competitiveness of society and is looking to provide critical knowledge to the young men.

“Our goal is to ignite the potential we see in our young men so they may become leaders not just in Selma and Dallas County, but wherever their purpose leads them. It’s our duty to lead the gap where there are shortfalls as it pertains to our youth.”
