The Alabama High School Athletic Association has reclassified for next year in football impacting all five Dallas County public schools. Alignments in spring sports will be announced later.
Dallas County High School drops from Class 4A to 3A and will compete in Region 3, 3A alongside Southside, Greensboro, Prattville Christian, Sumter Central, Thomasville, Thorsby and Wilcox Central.
Selma remains in Region 3, 5A, but Northside and Sipsey Valley joins Demopolis, Jemison, Montevallo and Shelby County and the Saints.
Keith remains a 1A school but goes from Region 3 to Region 4 against county rival Ellwood Christian Academy, Autauga Academy, Autaugaville, Billingsley, Maplesville, Notasulga and Verbena.
Dallas County High School Athletic Director David Hobson said the realignment makes the Hornets and Panthers’ rivalry more competitive and intense.
“Good competition is the backbone of athletics,” Hobson said. “We have a deep appreciation for the competition we can have with both of our county rivals. We look forward to continuing our county rivalry and to being in a region with Southside and continuing to push each other to compete.”
