The Selma Charity League (SCL) has been working to make Christmas brighter for children in Dallas County this year. In partnership with the Salvation Army, the SCL has achieved its goal of filling the wishes of every single Angel Tree participant in the county. This means that 42 children will have their Christmas wishes come true, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the SCL and its members.

League President Heidi O’Quinn expressed her pride in the organization’s partnership with the Salvation Army. 

“Our goal is to improve the lives of those in Selma and Dallas County, and in particular, children,” O’Quinn said. “To have the chance to ensure these kids each have a merry and blessed Christmas is such a special treat for our members.”

The SCL took its annual partnership with the Salvation Army a step further this year by assisting in the intake process for all Angel Tree participants as the Salvation Army lacked the staff to handle intakes on their own. League members volunteered their time to personally reach out to each family, conducting interviews with caregivers to ensure that each child’s Christmas was personalized and tailored to their preferences. This level of individualized attention allowed the SCL to select gifts that matched the specific wishes of the children, making their holiday season truly special.

Candice Irwin, SCL Project Coordinator, emphasized the importance of this partnership in addressing a critical need in the community. 

“So many of the kids who are served through this partnership wouldn’t have a Christmas without the Angel Tree Program,” Irwin said. “That makes this partnership so crucial, and our members were excited to fulfill each wish in Dallas County for this year.”
