Longtime Meadowview Elementary School teacher Mallory Lovell is the Selma Times-Journal’s Hero of the Week.
The Fostoria resident is known for her exceptional commitment to education and community service. With 14 years of teaching experience, Lovell currently teaches 1st grade at Meadowview Elementary School, making a significant impact on her students and colleagues.
“When I started teaching fourteen years ago, it was hard to find a job. I taught fifth grade my first year and then took a job at another school teaching 1st grade the next year,” Lovell said. “I like to say 1st grade chose me.”
The Farmersville native attended Lowndes Academy before pursuing her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education at Faulkner University. She later earned her master’s degree in Literacy from the University of New England. Those skills enhanced her qualifications as an educator.
Apart from her professional endeavors, Lovell is an active member of the Houston Park Church of Christ in Selma, where she participates in community outreach activities. Lovell’s involvement reflects her belief in the importance of giving back to society beyond the classroom.
In her role as a teacher, Lovell demonstrated a strong commitment to her students’ well-being and academic growth. Her dedication is evident in her efforts to create a supportive learning environment that encourages both personal and academic development.
Reflecting on her teaching career, Lovell acknowledges the challenges she faced when she first entered the profession. Despite the initial difficulties, she has persevered and become a respected figure in the education sector.
One of Lovell’s most memorable experiences occurred on Jan. 12, when a tornado struck the Old Orrville Road area while she and her students were inside Meadowview Elementary School. Despite the harrowing situation, Lovell remained calm and ensured the safety of her students and colleagues.
“The moment the power went out, I knew we were in the line of the storm,” Lovell said. “I did the only thing that I could do to help calm the students during that scary moment and prayed for safety.”
Beyond her teaching duties, Lovell emphasizes the importance of parental involvement in education. She actively engages parents in their children’s learning journey, recognizing the vital role they play in academic success.
Despite the challenges she has encountered, Lovell remains committed to her profession and the Selma City School System. Lovell’s dedication to her students and her passion for teaching make her a deserving recipient of the title “Hero of the Week.”
Lovell’s impact extends beyond the classroom leaves a lasting impression on her students and colleagues. Her unwavering dedication to education and community embodies the spirit of a true hero, inspiring others to make a positive difference in the world around them.
